Cameroon
The central African country of Cameroon supports a wide variety and abundance of trophy animals available to discriminating sportsman. The safari hunting in Cameroon is generally classified by the two prominent habitats- the woodland savannah and the equatorial rain forest. The forest area safaris concentrate on species like the elusive Bongo, Dwarf Forest Buffalo, Sitatunga and several other species. The savannah safari areas in Cameroon focus on the Lord Derby Eland, or Giant Eland, Northwestern Buffalo, Western Roan, Lion, Giant Topi, Sing-Sing Waterbuck, and many other species.
Hunting in Cameroon is not the typical African safari experience. These hunting safaris are for trophy hunters looking to hunt some of the rarest species in Africa while at the same time enjoying a very unique and cultural hunting experience. These are highly specialized hunting safaris and are only recommended for the experienced African hunter.
History and Description:
The former French Cameroon and part of British Cameroon merged in 1961 to form the present country. Cameroon has generally enjoyed stability, which has permitted the development of agriculture, roads, and railways, as well as a petroleum industry. Despite a slow movement toward democratic reform, political power remains firmly in the hands of an ethnic oligarchy headed by President Paul BIYA.
